African health leaders and partners launch the Imara Sickle Cell Framework
On World Sickle Cell Day, health leaders from Kenya, Uganda and Côte d'Ivoire launched the Imara Sickle Cell Framework — a regional initiative to turn sickle cell policy priorities into coordinated diagnosis, treatment and lifelong care. It is delivered with the World Coalition on Sickle Cell Disease, Terumo Blood and Cell Technologies, Africa CDC and the World Health Organization.

Kenya, Uganda and Côte d'Ivoire partner with Terumo Blood and Cell Technologies
The Ministries of Health of Kenya and Côte d'Ivoire, together with Uganda's Joint Clinical Research Centre (JCRC) under the Ministry of Health, have signed three Memoranda of Understanding with Terumo Blood and Cell Technologies to build coordinated national frameworks for sickle cell care — the foundation of Imara.
The partnership focuses on raising public awareness and reducing stigma, strengthening facility capacity and training health workers, conducting joint research on care strategies, integrating sickle cell disease into national health systems, and mobilising the resources needed to sustain care across the full patient journey.
